Cookie Baking Night 08/24/2020

Tonight was Cookie Baking Night. In attendance this evening: Carissa, Allison, Rylar, and Enzo. Tonight was Allison's Birthday choice (she turned 10 a few days ago). For supper she chose Pancakes, Strawberries & Blueberries, and Whipped Cream.

Uncle Greg made the pancakes tonight. When he was young, his Aunt Monica would make pancakes for him in the shape of a G. Greg thought that was a very special thing, so he made a special pancake for Allison in the shape of an A.

For her "cookie", Allison chose Chex Bars (a carmalized Chex cereal, M&Ms, cashew mixture).

And "Cheerios Bars" (think Special K bars with Honey Nut Cheerios and no chocolate).

This year we haven't been doing our regular family gatherings for birthdays (due to COVID19), so we gave Allison her present at Cookie Baking Night (a Shopkins car and a missionary biography of Elisabeth Elliot).

We finished off our evening with Allison's favorite game, Pictureka. Uncle Greg even joined in on the merriment. And I can definitely say "a fun time was had by all".

Cookie Baking Night (08/10/20)

Tonight was Cookie Baking NIght. In attendance this evening: Carissa, Allison, Rylar, and Enzo.

Tonight was Enzo's birthday choice. For supper, he chose cheese pizza and apples. For his cookie he chose "gingerbread houses".

Because gingerbread house supplies are a bit scarce in August, we did a summer version using sugar cookie houses.

I think, for Enzo, it was all about the frosting and the sprinkles.

We spent a little time outside playing a game of lawn darts

And rolling down the hill

Since family birthday gatherings are a bit unpredictable this year (due to COVID-19), we decided to give Enzo his birthday gift at Cookie Baking Night.

A Batomobile and a Batman action figure

As usual, a fun time was had by all (especially Enzo).

Cookie Baking Night (07/27/20)

Tonight was Cookie Baking Night. In attedance this evening: Carissa, Allison, Rylar, and Enzo.

In honor of my brother's birthday tomorrow, we made his favorite dessert. It's officially called Pastachio Dessert, but he always refers to it as "green stuff'.

It starts with a crust

then a cream cheese layer

Next pistachio pudding and top that with another layer of whipped cream

For Bible time, we've been working on learning the names of God so that we have a base knowledge of His attributes firmly planted in our heads (and hearts).

Tonight we learned the Hebrew name Elohim, which means strong creator.

We tried an experiment where we numbered 10 pieces of paper and put them in order and placed them in a paper bag. We blew into the bag and then popped it. We wanted to see if the pieces of paper would leave the bag in order after the "explosion". Every time, the experiment produced non-orderly results. We came to the conclusion that order doesn't just happen, it's created.

We finished the evening with a lively game of Zingo.

As usual, a fun time was had by all (even those at the back of the table).

Cookie Baking Night (07/13/2020)

Tonight was Cookie Baking Night. In attendance this evening: Allison, Rylar, and Enzo.

Tonight we made Strawberry Oatmeal Bars.

Carissa wasn't able to join us this evening, so we took advantage of some of our new found technology skills and did a teleconferencing visit with her.
We were even able to play a game together.

Shortly aftter we finished making the strawberry bars, Enzo asked if he could get out the cleaning toys from other room and clean the kitchen.

Well, I think I'd be a fool to turn down that offer.

Cookie Baking Night (06/22/20)

Tonight was Cookie Baking Night. In attendance this evening: Carissa, Allison, Rylar, and Enzo. Tonight was Carissa's birthday choice. She'll be turning 15 years old in about a week and a half. For supper, she chose macaroin and cheese and tator tots. For her "cookie" she chose her favorite for the past several years running: Dirt cups.

First, we colored a few flowers to use with our dirt cups

Then we moved to the kitchen and started crushing the cookies to make the "dirt"

Then we layered the pudding and the cookie crumbs and added the flowers for decoration.

As usual, a fun time was had by all.

Today was my 11th treatment of Taxol. Only 1 left to go, and I am grateful! This past week was a bit of a low-energy week for me and more of...
