Cookie Baking Night 02/25/13

Tonight was Cookie Baking Night. In attendance this evening: Ethan and Carissa. In keeping with our 2013 theme of "The Year of the Cookie", tonight we made Deluxe Peanut Butter Cookies. We took a regular peanut cookie recipe and wrapped the dough around a peanut butter cup candy. To finish them off, we drizzeled them with melted chocolate (probably the highlight of the experience for the kids).

Tonight, we read the first lesson from our new book God's Names by Sally Michael. The first name of God we encountered is Elohim meaning Strong Creator. This lesson prompted great discussion about who created the world, how he created it, and what he used to create it. The lesson also provided us with an experiment that allowed us to test the theory of order. The kids really enjoyed this hands-on application and it spurred on great thought and discussion.

I can tell we will learn much about God and his character by studying his names. I'm excited about working our way through this book.

Cookie Baking Night 02/11/13

Tonight was Cookie Baking Night. In attendance this evening: Emily. Tonight was Valentine cookie night. We made sugar cookies and frosted them Valentine colors and put little candy bears on them. Emily was in her element.

We also started a new book tonight: God's Names by Sally Michael from the Desiring God ministry of Bethlehem Baptist Church. I read through it a few months ago and really liked it. It teaches about God and his character and nature by teaching through various names of God. I look forward to working through this book with the kids. Tonight we read the introduction.

As usual, a fun time was had by all!

P.S. A Cookie Baking Night alumni stopped over this evening. Joe (Emily's brother) came to pick up Emily at the end of the evening. He's 20 years old now, and it appears he's still growing (he's a little taller every time I see him, 6'3" now, but he's hoping for 6'5"--better jump shot he said).

It was good to see him and catch up with him a bit and to be reminded that this time with the young ones goes by so fast. All the more reason to love them, enjoy the time with them, and teach them the things of God (for so very soon they'll be driving cars and working at jobs--and Cookie Baking Night is just a memory).

I just finished cycle 3 of drug X. Today I had my oncology appointment where my labs were checked and the plan was made to continue on with ...
