Bible Musings (Colossians)

The Letter of Paul to the Colossians

"Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother:
To the saints and faithful brothers in Chirst at Colossae:
Grace to you and peace from God our Father.
We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love that you have for all the saints, because of the hope laid up for you in heaven... "

Colossians 1:1-5

  1. I love the common theme of these opening letters from Paul:

    * Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God,

*Paul, called by the will of God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus

*Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God,

*Paul, an apostle--not from men no through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father

*Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God,

Is there any doubt in Paul's mind that it is the will of God to be called as a witness for the Lord Jesus Christ?

When we know our calling is from God, and that is not our own, how much more secure can we be in the sovereignty of God?

  2. Well said, Wayne. I share your enthusiasm for the affirmation of God's sovereignty through these short greetings at the beginning of Paul's letters!
