Book Club Wednesday 02/15/12

The Book Club Wednesday selection for February, March, and April is A Chance to Die by Elisabeth Elliot. It is the Amy Charmichael story. Amy Charmichael was a missionary in India. She served 55 years in India without furlough and wrote many books about her work there. This book is about her life in particular, her beginning years, her work up to her missionary work, her life in India, and her walk with the God she loved.

This week I read chapters 1-5. These chapters were primarily about Amy's growing up years, about her family, and about the seeds of mission work that were planted in her heart for the young women who lived in her very own community. Impressed in my mind in these first five chapters was Amy's dependence on prayer and realization that there is nothing God cannot do or provide. She learned early on that prayer to Him is the first course of action in all situations.

I look forward to watching this book develop and learning more about the life of Amy Charmichael. Please feel free to weigh in with your thoughts about the first five chapters in the comments section of this post.

If you haven't started reading this book yet, I hope you'll pick up a copy and join me.
